Introduction

Wingnuts Aviation opened in 2013 with an aim to provide comprehensive flight instruction with a candid approach.  We are a group of pilots who enjoy a challenge as well as continuously refining our piloting skills, and we are excited to share our passion.

We know that the best route through flight training is not always the easiest, but we are willing to invest the time in our students to see them successfully and safely into the air.

Afraid of Stalls? Need some ground tutoring? Unsure about airspace?

You have come to the right place. Ask the 17 students we put up for their FAA checkrides this last year!

Owners

Brett Crowley

Brett Crowley was born in Colorado to a family of pilots, his grandfather flew C-47s over the Hump in WWII and his father retired as a 747 captain. Brett served in the Navy for numerous years before returning to the Rocky Mountain area to guide snowmachine, whitewater, motorcycle and horseback tours. Upon moving to Alaska, Brett pursued flight training and quickly earned his instructor's rating. In Brett's own words: "I love anything with an engine."

Tara Chesnut

A third generation pilot like Brett, Tara Chesnut grew up in Alaska on a homestead only accessible by air or water. As a young child, she found flying back of her family's Aeronca Sedan into town for groceries quite dull. A few years older and a bit more open minded, Tara pursued flight training, earned her pilot's license, and most importantly - met Brett.

Brett and Tara managed a small airport in Wyoming for a couple years, before deciding to return home to Alaska with hopes of making aviation safer and more accessible to our community.
