Flight Training

A holder of a Commercial Pilots License must be at least 18 years of age and a minimum of 200 flight hours must be obtained. The time acquired during obtaining the PPL can count toward this, but the PPL must be obtained first. Your training must include include 35 hours of dual instruction after the PPL of which 5 must be night, 20 hours of Instrument (10 of which can be in the flight simulator). You will also be required to obtain 30 hours of solo flight training after the PPL, of which 5 must be at night and include a 300NM cross country. For the 300nm cross country, the routing must include 3 airports other than the departure airport (CEZ3). Furthermore, a minimum of 100 hours of your total time must be Pilot in Command (this includes training from your PPL).


Ground School & Examinations

A total of 80 hours ground school is required for the Commercial Pilots license. Topics covered include Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, and General Aeronautical Knowledge. A mark of 70% is required on the Transport Canada Written Exam. A Commercial flight test must also be completed by a designated Transport Canada approved examiner.


Privileges

As a Commercial Pilot License holder, you will be legally able to work as a pilot. Included in the license are Night and VFR Over the Top ratings/privileges. Often students choose to obtain a Multi Engine Class Rating and an Instrument Rating during their commercial training as well.
