Private Pilot Training – Single Engine

Flight lessons for private pilot trainingWith these flight lessons the student obtains the foundation for all future aircraft pilot training. Flight lessons include maneuvers and procedures necessary for students to meet the standards contained in the FAA Private Pilot Training Practical Test Standards. Additionally, students will receive flight lessons in safety awareness, crew resource management, and aeronautical decision-making. The Private Pilot Certificate (PPL) is similar to earning your high school degree. From there you progress to your Instrument Rating (bachelor’s degree), Commercial Multi Engine Pilot License (master’s degree) and then your Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (doctorate degree). As a private pilot you can fly an airplane and carry passengers (friends, family, co-workers, etc) but not for compensation or hire. However, you can share the operating expenses with your passengers. At the successful completion of this course the student will have gained the aeronautical experience necessary to apply for an FAA Private Pilot license as the first step in becoming a professional pilot.

Epic Flight Academy’s private pilot training is conducted in the most popular single-engine training aircraft, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. All of our C172’s our new generation aircraft with Garmin G-1000 in each. Take a look our accelerated private pilot training graduates!

How long will it take to get my Private Pilot License?private pilot training license

Full-time students flying a minimum of 20 hours per week and who truly dedicate themselves to completing their private pilot training can do so within a 3 month period, no problem. An average to below average student typically needs 4-5 months but this delay in completing can be avoided if the student stays motivated and studies hard. If you have a job and can only fly a few hours a week then it could take 4-6 months to finish, dependent on your availability.

What are the costs and can I try it out first?

Jonathan Hernandez PPL School GraduateOf course! We offer introductory flight lessons called Discovery Flights that will allow you to fly with an instructor and get your first experience in the sky as a co-pilot. A new private pilot training ground school begins each month at Epic so make sure you reserve your seat in advance. The tuition cost to complete the course is typically $14,000 – $16,000 dependent on student progress. Epic offers a fixed unit price (per hour price) that includes fuel and insurance and our customers are only charged for the services they receive. When you reach the point of your checkride you will pay directly to the FAA Examiner the $500 checkride fee. In addition to your tuition and checkride, like at any university or college, you need to purchase books and materials. You can purchase these on arrival in Epic’s Pilot Shop or you can ask your Admissions Representative for a list and order them online to be received prior to your ground school class start.

Could I really complete my Private Pilot training in only 50-60 hours of flight time?

Absolutely, this is 100% an attainable goal that all students should focus on. We have students that complete their private pilot training in 45-50 total flight hours all the time! From our experience the majority students that struggle with completing in 45-50 hours are those that do not have a proficient level of English. The other few have poor study habits and are not focused on their training. Very rarely it can also be due to unforeseen poor weather conditions but Florida has the most consistent weather that is optimal for flying. The best advice we can give is that before you begin your private pilot training you take an Aviation English course that has American spoken English audio, not British English. We suggest signing up with our Aviation English partner company, Pilot Aviation English, for their 45 day Virtual Classroom course. You will save so much time and money by spending a small amount to prepare yourself and make sure that you understand your flight instructor’s teachings. Otherwise, study hard and listen closely to your flight instructor and you should have no problem!
