"Fly for Hire"!  A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) allows you to be paid to fly.

To obtain the Commercial Pilot License, you will first need a Private Pilot License. once you have your PPL, the Commercial License program is made up of an 80 hour ground school, 65 hours of flight training, and time-building to meet the requirements listed below. The night rating program also forms part of the Commercial License program and is usually a great place to start after completing a the PPL program.

Most commercial pilots-in-training will add to their license by including other training such as instrument flight rating, USA Checkout and Mountain Flying Course. A common path after completing the Commercial Pilot License program is to pursue a Class IV Instructor Rating

Transport Canada Minimum Requirements

based on training on Cessna 172 at $162/hr solo and $212/hr dual:

18 years old

Category 1 Medical Certificate

80 hours of Commercial Ground School instruction @ $1,200.00

60% in each area of the CPAER written examination

200 hours total flight time including

100 hours as pilot-in-command time, including 20 hours cross-country pilot-in-command flight time

65 hours of commercial flight training including

35 hours dual instruction flight time @ $7,420.00 including

5 hours night

5 hours cross-country

20 hours instrument flight time, up to 10 hours on a simulator

5 hours day

30 hours solo flight time @ $4,860.00 including:

25 hours improving general flying skills, including a 300 nautical mile radius cross-country flight

5 hours night including 10 take-offs, circuits and landings

90 hours solo flight time for time building @ $14,580.00

10 hours briefing with instructor @ $500.00

Complete a flight test to the standard described in the Flight Test Guide @ $535.00

Total Estimated Cost (on C172 and based on student obtained the PPL already)*:  $29,095.00

* Price quoted is based on Transport Canada minimum requirements. Most students will require more than minimum required hours to complete their flight training.  Therefore, estimated costs will vary accordingly and students should allow for approximately 25% additional funding for the completion of their training.  All prices are in CAD and are subject to change without prior notice.  All prices shown are local students rates.
