Obtaining a commercial pilot certificate is an important next step for those seeking a career in aviation.  once you’ve earned a commercial pilot certificate you can get paid to fly while you build time and gain experience.  If you’ve ever thought about becoming a Certified Flight Instructor, a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating are prerequisites.  Just participating in the commercial pilot training course will enhance your airman knowledge, skill and ability as you gain valuable experience and proficiency in flying complex aircraft.

In accordance with 14 CFR 61.121, candidates for the commercial pilot certificate must have: at least 250 hours of total time in airplanes; 100 hours of pilot-in command time; 50 hours of cross country flight time; 20 hours of dual training for the Commercial Pilot certificate; 10 hours of instrument training; and 10 hours in complex airplanes.  Of course, there is a written exam that must be satisfactorily completed and reviewed prior to taking your commercial check ride.

Ground Training

Your ground training is typically accomplished by a course of study based upon information contained in the Airplane Flying Handbook. Ground training focuses on VFR cross-country flight planning as well as air navigation, rules and regulations related to commercial pilot operations, operation and limitations of advanced aircraft systems, and instrument training as may be required.

Flight Training

Flight training focuses on VFR cross-country flying and night operations as well as complex aircraft operation and commercial maneuvers. We’ll also spend some time refreshing on instrument flying skills and developing the proficiency required to be successful as a commercial pilot.
