The most common pilot certificate is the private pilot certificate.  As a private pilot, you can fly any aircraft that fit into the "Single Engine Land" category as long as you have the appropriate ratings and endorsements (Ex:  Tail wheel, complex...etc)

Private pilot training consists of learning the fundamentals of safe flight, ground reference maneuvers, preparedness for emergency situations, basic instrument flying, navigation and radio communications.

A minimum of 40 hours flight time is required, 20 of which must be with an instructor

When your CFI feels confident in your abilities and you've completed either our ground school, or an online equivalent, you must pass a written exam (available at P&N Flight & Charter).

Upon passing the written exam, you will schedule a checkride, your final test to receive your certificate.  The checkride includes an oral exam and practical test in the airplane.

How much time does it take to earn a private pilot certificate?

Depending on the weather and availability of the aircraft you choose, it's possible to pass in as little as 90 days.  Many students take six months to one year to complete their certificate.  You'll save money if you fly often (several times each week), solo sooner and earn your certificate earlier than if you space your lessons out over longer time periods.

How much will it cost?

There are a few variables that will dictate your overall expenses when learning to fly.  Aircraft are available to rent from P&N at various rates, or you could buy your own plane.  If you're renting, expect aircraft rental costs & instructor fees to total around $150 per hour of flight time.
