This license will allow you to fly yourself and if you choose, to bring a friend (or date, spouse, kid, etc!).  You will be legal to fly a plane categorized as a Light Sport Aircraft during daylight hours in clear weather.   You may fly cross-country to any location in the US!

What GCA offers to your advantage:
GCA is the only flight school in the region that offers a Light Sport Aircraft for rental.
Our instructors certifications allows time spent towards the Sports Pilot License to be eligible for more advanced licenses.
Picturesque Pontchartrain Lake and New Orleans Skyline.
Conveniently located at the Lakefront Airport: a demanding yet relaxed airspace with high tolerance for students and new pilots.
Location allows training (and instructor signoff) in Airspace Classification B, C, and D.
Personal Requirements:
Be 17 Years of Age
Read, write, speak and understand English
Hold a Medical Certificate (Note: The FAA requires at least a Driver’s License, but GCA policy is for all students and renters to posses a current medical)
Pass a FAA Sport Pilot Written Test
Pass a FAA Sport Pilot Practical Test

While the sport pilot license above is achievable in the time listed, it is more typical for beginning pilots to take a bit longer to build their proficiency.  A better average would be 22 hours dual flight  time, and 8 hours solo.  The rule of thumb: Flying more often equates to faster progress.  Gulf Coast Aviation offers a program ideal for both the career pilot and the life pilot.
You can read more about the detailed requirements and the privileges various licenses give you on the FAA’s Becoming a Pilot Web Page.
