Realize Your Dream at Hillsboro

Our flight school was founded by pilots who grew up with dreams of flying. Since 1980, thousands of professional pilots from over 75 countries have graduated from our training courses just outside of Portland, Oregon.

We’re one of the largest helicopter and airplane flight schools in the United States and we have a great reputation that follows our international pilots around the world.

At Hillsboro Aero Academy, you get the invaluable benefit of training in the varied environments and weather of the Pacific Northwest—preparing you for the real world of flying. Plus, your safety is our top priority. Our large fleet of helicopters and airplanes is meticulously maintained by FAA-approved mechanics. We were also the first International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) accredited Part 141 primary flight training school (academy). The IS-BAO program, developed by the International Business Aviation Council, is an internationally-recognized set of standards for business aviation.

One of the best parts of training at Hillsboro? You’ll make friends for life. No matter wher you call home, you’ll find camaraderie here and become part of a global network of pilots flying around the world.

Not only was Hillsboro a valuable learning environment, but the networking and professional connections made while learning and teaching there helped me gain employment throughout my career. Networking is everything in aviation, and the benefits of the connections I made at Hillsboro are beyond measure. Without the education and connections from my time at Hillsboro, my career would not be what it is today.

Sarah Brown HAA graduate

Sarah Brown, First Officer at Alaska Airlines

Sarah is currently a first officer flying the Boeing 737 for Alaska Airlines. She previously worked as a captain on the Citation X (CE-750) and King Air 200 (B200) aircraft, flying both internationally and domestically for a private individual.

We’re an FAA-approved flight school and offer training under Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 141 and FAR Part 61—providing you with flexible options to reach your career goals. We also offer degree programs through Portland Community College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Portland Campus.

If you’re a U.S. military veteran, we’re a VA-approved flight school and you can use your GI Bill Benefits for pilot training. Do you live outside the United States? We offer F-1 and M-1 student visa programs and have a lot of experience training international students from over 75 countries—we’re even approved by the Chinese government for airplane and helicopter training.

We’ve built a worldwide reputation on the quality of our graduates and your success as a pilot is as vital to us as it is to you.

We’d love to answer any questions you have about beginning a career as a pilot.
