Palmetto Aviation Repair, located at Malcom McKinnon Airport on St. Simons Island, has been awarded a five year contract for maintenance on Civil Air Patrol (CAP) aircraft in southeast Georgia. Previously the Brunswick Senior Squadron had to have their Cessna 172 serviced in Covington, Georgia, a two hour one way trip. CAP aircraft are subject to strict maintenance regulations including inspection and oil change at 50 hours of flight time and complete power plant and air frame inspection at 100 hours. The Brunswick Squadron logs approximately 20 hours a month of flight time during regularly scheduled Sundown Patrols. A mission ready crew is always on stand by for search and rescue calls. The CAP is the Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force which provides emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs nationwide.
