Make the best of the technology available in the aircraft, without becoming dependent upon it.

At Angel City Flyers, you’ll train for your private pilot certificate in a state-of-the-art Diamond DA40. With glass cockpit displays, satellite navigation, satellite weather and autopilot, this aircraft incorporates the very latest technology. Our private pilot certificate course exceeds FAA requirements. During your private pilot certificate training, we teach you to make the best of the technology available in the aircraft without becoming dependent upon it.

What do I need to do to get my private pilot certificate?

You need the ability to read and write English, and you must be able to get an FAA third-class medical. You must also be 17 at the time of the practical test.

How long will it take?

That will depend on how much time you have to devote to training. If you can train full time, it takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks to complete the private pilot certificate. If you train 2 to 3 times a week, it may take approximately 6 months to complete. Flying as often as possible—up to a maximum of twice a day, 5 days a week—is one key to achieving your private pilot certificate in the shortest time.

How much does it cost?

The cost varies, depending on the intensity of the training schedule, amount of self-study and other considerations. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours flight time to undertake the practical test for getting your private pilot certificate. Of the 40 hours, a minimum of 20 hours must be with an instructor and a minimum of 10 hours solo. The average total flight time for private pilot training in the U.S. is approximately 55 to 70 hours.

How do I sign up for the training?
