Accelerated Flight Training is the future for serious general aviation pilots. The military has used it forever in training their pilots. Experience has proven that full-time, intense instrument training leads to higher instrument skills and a confidence level necessary to operate safely as an IFR pilot.

Many pilots thinking about getting their instrument rating have full time jobs and a family commitment. This leaves very little time for flight training. Consequently, obtaining the rating takes longer and costs more than my accelerated instrument course.

We don’t offer a “canned” instrument course. You tell us what you have in your logbook and when you want to get your rating and together we develop a program tailor made for you. We will train not only to meet the FAA regulations but more importantly, train you to operate safely and confidently in IFR weather and the Air Traffic Control system.

In addition to being a CFI, Jim Fleming is also a Designated Pilot Examiner. At the conclusion of your training, Jim will administer your Instrument Airplane Practical Exam. Flight training with the Examiner that will conduct your checkride is extremely popular with students. This arrangement is not common in the flight training industry and is part of what makes Flight Methods Aviation, Llc. unique. Your checkride will be no less comprehensive than if you took it with an examiner you have never met.   All examiners are required to administer exams in accordance with the FAA Practical Test Standards.   Don’t you agree this arrangement will take some of the “checkride jitters” away?

Depending on how much experience you have, the typical training program is 7 to 10 days. The cost per day if you bring your own airplane is $495.00. If you fly my Cessna 172, it is an extra $125.00 per hour plus tax. The training day is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break when it is convenient and other breaks as necessary. You are responsible for your own ground transportation, motel and meals.

Here is how you can determine your cost to either start your instrument airplane training from the beginning or sign up for our finish-up program:  Deduct the number of instrument hours you currently have from the required number of 40.  As an example 40 required minus 3 you logged during your PPL training equals 37.  Now divide 37 hours remaining by 3.  3 is the minimum number of instrument hours we will log each day you are here.  37 divided by 3 equals 12.  12 is the number of training days you will need.  Multiply 12 times $495.00 per day for my instruction fee.  This equals $5,940.00.

My CE-172 Skyhawk wet rental rate is $125.00/hr.  So multiply 37 hours of required flight time by $125.00 and the result is $4,625.00.

Add my fee of $5,940.00 and the Skyhawk rental of $4,625.00 and the result is $10,565.00.  This is a darn good estimate of what my accelerated instrument training program will cost.  No need to add in an examiner fee.  I will be your examiner and my fee is included in your program.
