Overview

When it was first introduced the 100cc Beast from Hangar 9 was an instant hit with model flyers around the world and rightly so; this giant scale biplane had both style and performance in abundance.

Now following on from the initial success of the earlier model and numerous requests from modellers around the world for a smaller version, E-flite have introduced an all electric powered Beast combining great looks and performance.

The Beast 60e features traditional balsa and light plywood construction, and thanks to careful engineering by David Payne and Quique Somenzini retains the same great flying characteristics of the larger Hangar 9 version. Achieving an excellent power-to-weight ratio gives the model the superb handling and aerobatic characteristics of its larger Hangar 9 cousin.

The motor cowling, battery hatch and wheel spats are fibreglass and come pre-painted to match the Ultracote™ copyrighted colour scheme that was first created on the full-size aircraft by Mirco Pecorari of Italy; duplicating exactly the iconic full-size Beast as flown by top display pilot the late Bryan Jensen.

During the design stages a great deal of attention was paid to the construction of the model, and in particular ease of use, accessibility and assembly. The fuselage features a large fibreglass magnetic battery hatch that provides easy access to flight batteries and other running gear. Unusually for a biplane, assembly at the flying field is simple. Just 4 bolts and 4 pins have the model assembled, making a pleasant change as most biplanes usually require much more attention each time they are disassembled for transport or storage.

Servo placements have been carefully made to optimise mechanical advantages on the control surfaces, resulting in crisper response to command inputs. By using the same slim airfoil section as the 100cc Beast the model delivers rock steady aerobatic performance throughout the flight envelope, combined with good slow speed handling. On the ground the steerable tail wheel and relatively wide landing gear give the model impeccable handling.

Powered by the recommended E-flite Power 60 470Kv brushless outrunner motor the model has superb vertical performance whilst a 6S 4400 - 5000 LiPo flight battery ensures that there is more than enough power and duration.

On the ground the Beast is stunning model to look at; in the air the Beast is quite simply, awesome!
