NACO (Netherlands Airport Consultants) was established in 1949 by Dr. Albert Plesman, founder and director-president of the Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM).
In the immediate aftermath of World War II, Plesman foresaw that specialized know-how would be required to reconstruct airports in the Netherlands and beyond. In response, he set up an organisation that would combine the knowledge of experts in airport construction in order to develop the required infrastructure for aviation to truly take flight.
During the first few years of its existence, NACO established a firm foundation with projects across the globe, in countries including the Netherlands, Indonesia, Egypt and Germany.
NACO’s reputation as a world-class airport consultancy firm was further strengthened when its experts started to play a direct role in the development of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s master plan in the 1950s. Since the official opening in 1967, our experts have been involved in every single terminal extension at the airport – so this relationship still remains strong today.
Alongside technological developments and the growth in air traffic during this period, NACO became an important player on a global scale.
The years that followed have been marked by organizational growth and expansion of international activities. Since then, NACO has worked on more than 600 airports around the world.
Today, NACO is a company of Royal HaskoningDHV, one of the world’s leading independent international project management, engineering consultancy service providers which has over 6,000 professionals located in 35 countries around the world.
