Originally designed to cater to the Indian Army, the Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama took it's first test flight in March of 1969. This French design single-engine helicopter was developed to work in high and hot conditions, and was soon nicknamed "a mule of the air" due to their capacity for hard work. The Lama is able reach exceptionally high altitude performance and since 1972 it has maintained a record of 401,814 feet.
