In 1951, Glen and Hazel Sigafoose started cutting balsa wood in the basement of their home in Montezuma, Iowa for model airplane enthusiasts in the heartland of America.From these humble beginnings has grown one of the most widely respected manufacturers and suppliers of products for the model hobbyist in the world.From our 80,000 square foot facility still located in Montezuma, SIG produces over 2,000 products ranging from injected molded accessories and parts to complete Build It Yourself airplane models, and just about everything in between.SIG is a leading processor of balsa, spruce, maple, bass and plywood specially seleced for the discriminating hobbyist. In our paint and fuel division, we manufacture high quality paints, glow fuels and other chemicals desired by our customers. Of course, we would not be SIG without our outstanding line of model aircraft in radio controlled, free flight and control line varieties. Many of our Build It Yourself (BIY) kits feature state-of-the-art laser cut parts for fast assembly and outstanding accuracy. SIG's Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) airplanes are produced overseas to our demanding design and quality standards.

In 2001, the Herr Engineering line of quality, 100% laser cut free flight and radio controlled model airplanes joined the Sig family of products.
In 2003, the Kavan line of fine models and accessories also joined the Sig family of products.
