Introduction
about the Company

The company Svitap J.H.J. spol. s.r.o. was established in 1993 from a state-owned company whose production consisted mainly of tape fabrics, linen canvases and also army tents.

Twenty years after the privatization, the company has broadened its product range so that at present it does not have any problem to compete successfully on the market. Production and sales are divided into six divisions most of which are located in Svitavy – only one division is situated in Chropyně. The fact that we have several divisions each of which has a different production range has proved to be an advantage.

Our range of products and services includes the manufacture and sales of technical fabrics (tent and canvas fabrics, linen fabrics, filtration fabrics) and technical ready-made products (tents, halls, covers, gazebos), fabrics for work clothes, roof membranes and other foils, synthetic leather and the binding PET tape. Apart from technical textiles our range also includes microfibre home textiles which we sell under our brands of Sleep Well® and Ovečka® and also bedspread fabrics, cleaning textiles, tablecloths, tea towels and bath towels. We sell these products in two e-shops and two brick-and-mortar shops.
Because we try to offer our customers complete service, our production includes also a finishing plant and a dying plant of fabrics, a party tent rental and other services.

In the words of the managing director and owner of the company, Mr. Ing. Jan Heřmanský, although in the present world it is not possible to make long-term plans for the future, we believe that we will keep a strong position on the market even in the coming years thanks to our range of products and services.

HISTORY

The oldest documented textile guilds in Svitavy date back to 1516 when the municipal books state the name of the first cloth weaver. The number of master craftsmen of the cloth weaving profession grew and around 1760 there were already so many masters craftsmen in the town that they had trouble finding livelihood. Because the obsolete guild regulations prevented the growth of enterprises, textile production in the period of the first manufactures in 1773 was excluded from guild production and became a free profession. In 1863 Heinrich Klinger requested the
district sheriff office in Moravská Třebová to be granted a permission to procure and manufacture linen fabrics. In the same year he had his trade recorded in the commercial register. In 1866 he founded the first textile factory in Svitavy, that is, a Svitavy branch of his Vienna company. In 1878 Julius Preussfreund, another founder of the textile industry in Svitavy, founded a mechanical jute weaving plant.  He was the first in Moravia and one of the first in the then Austro-Hungarian Empire to introduce electric arch lighting in factories. In 1881 he left the town, and Heinrich Klinger joined the weaving plant to his company. This led to the foundation of k. k. Leinenwaarenfabrik.
