The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) market is the fastest growing segment of the aviation industry at the moment. There are new uses being developed for them on an almost daily basis. According to the Associaiton For Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) - "The Economic Impact of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration in the United States report shows the economic benefit of UAS integration. AUVSI’s findings show that in the first three years of integration more than 70,000 jobs will be created in the United States with an economic impact of more than $13.6 billion. This benefit will grow through 2025 when we foresee more than 100,000 jobs created and economic impact of $82 billion." Click here to view the full report from AUVSI.

If you are looking to start a career or change to a new career, piloting unmanned aerial systems may just be the career you are looking for. Now is the perfect time to get into the industry, as it is just starting to takeoff! There are many companies out there that are currently looking for pilots to fly their UAS's, but there aren't enough pilots to go around. So what requirements to you need to meet to pilot a UAS?

In order to pilot a UAS for civil operations - that is any operation that is not military, public use such as law enforcement, or for recreational/hobby purposes - you must hold a current airman certificate issued through the FAA. The cheapest and fastest way for you to meet this requirement is obtaining your Light Sport Certificate. Total Flight Solutions is the only flight training provider in the Triangle that offers Light Sport training.
