Western Aerial Survey and Photographic Services is owned and operated by Dr Paul Naessens, a highly experienced archaeologist and landscape surveyor, based in Oughterard Co. Galway. The business has been established with the backing of Forum Connemara and the support of a number of high profile local business people and researchers from the National University of Ireland Galway. Paul studied archaeology at NUI Galway and the University of Glasgow and completed a PhD on the archaeology and history of Iarchonnacht (Connemara) in 2009. He has extensive experience as a land-based and maritime surveyor and consultant on major infrastructural projects such as the Eirgrid Interconnector Project both in Ireland and the UK.
Extensive experience in the application of UAVs (minaturised aerial vehicles) gained in the UK and offshore has encouraged Paul to apply his unique skill set to various emerging markets in Ireland and led to the establishment of Western Aerial Survey to meet the broad needs of a variety of sectors in the region. Paul continues to work as an archaeological surveyor, planning consultant and part-time lecturer at NUI Galway. He also provides photographic,landscape modelling and mapping services services to a number of high-profile private, public and corporate clients. We carry full public liability insurance for your peace of mind and our operators are IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) certified.
