L3 Wescam has stepped up the marketing of kits that integrate the company’s MX-series imaging and targeting turrets with onboard consoles for processing and interpretation. The kits have been branded MatriX, and offer easy installation and removal on—for instance—helicopters and airlifters.
“L3 has been an integrator of turnkey ISR systems for several years, havin designed and implemented innovative solutions for platforms including the CH-146 Griffon, the AS355 and U.S. Coast Guard C-130s for the CASPER program,” said Jeff Miller, president of L3’s Sensor Systems business segment. “We are now formally launching the MatriX brand, creating custom ISR systems that meet operational needs efficiently and affordably,” he continued.

L3 said that the MatriX kits combine best-in-class commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies to provide an advanced level of ISR mission capabilities in airborne platforms that have traditionally conducted missions without them. They can be supplied as a compact walk-on/walk-off installation, or as a larger, palletized roll-on/roll-off system. The platforms can be restored to their original configuration within a few hours, the company added.

At the recent Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Florida, L3 showed MatriX solutions for UH-60 helicopters and C-130 airlifters.

Since the beginning of this year. L3 Wescam has announced new orders for the MX-series from the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Thai Navy, the USAF Special Operations Command, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. “With more than 3,600 MX products fielded and an installed base that spans 78 countries, L3 Wescam remains a sought after, trusted and proven partner,” said Mike Greenley, president of L3 Wescam.
