The Private Pilot License – Helicopter is for individuals who plan to fly for personal business and/or pleasure and not engage in work for compensation or hire. With your PPL-H you are allowed to take family, friends, and co-workers on board your aircraft or the aircraft you are renting while acting as Pilot in Command.
To be eligible for a Helicopter Private Pilot Certificate, a person must:
Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language, or have such operating limitations placed on his/her pilot certificate as are necessary for safety
Be a US citizen or pass an online TSA security assessment
Hold at least a current FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
Complete Ground School (Approximately 10 hours)
Obtain a minimum of 40 flight hours, which must include a minimum 20 hours of dual flight and minimum 10 hours of solo flight
Pass FAA knowledge and practical examinations
Average course completion time: 4-6 weeks with 55-60 hours
Immersion training completion time: 15-20 days
