Multi-Engine Instrument Rating

If you want to be able to fly in the cloud than an instrument rating is necessary. An instrument rating can either be for single engine aircraft or multi engine aircraft.

Prerequisite

Hold a valid private pilot license

Must be 18 years of age

Category 3 Medical

Course Requirements

based on minimum Transport Canada requirements

Minimum 50 hours cross country PIC time and 40 hours of instrument time (this includes all previously acquired hours).

20 hours can be done on site in our Redbird Multi Engine PA44 Seminole Simulator.

20 hours dual instruction including:

5 hours in the appropriate aircraft type

1 dual cross country flight of a minimum 100nm in instrument conditions (IFR)

1 hour solo

10 hours ground school

Passing grade on a Transport Canada written exam and flight test

Length of Course

The instrument rating can take anywher between 2-6 weeks to complete depending on whether the student is full-time or part-time.

Privileges and Limitations

The holder of an instrument rating may operate any Canadian registered aircraft which he/she is licensed in instrument conditions (IFR)

Cannot be endorsed on a Recreational Pilot Permit
