Upon completion of your Commercial Pilot Certificate, you are eligible to train for a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate. As a CFI, you can give instruction to students in preparation for their Private Pilot’s License. Many aspiring professional pilots become CFI’s to obtain the necessary hours to move to the airlines. The main purpose of the CFI training is to get the student proficient in flying and instructing from the right seat.

At Spitfire Aviation, we us the Jeppesen Certified Flight Instructor Manual for our CFI training program.

You will need to successfully pass two written exams and a practical exam to receive this rating. Additionally, you must receive Spin Training. This certificate typically takes about 15 hours to complete.

After receiving your CFI Certificate, you will be able work as a flight instructor.

Below are the FAA training requirements for this certificate:

FAA Training Requirements

•Current Commercial Pilot Certificate

•3rd class Medical certificate

•Pass two FAA written exams: Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) and Flight Instructor Airplane (FIA)

•Receive ground and flight training from an authorized instructor with a focus on right seat proficiency

•Received and logged Spin Training at instructional proficiency level
