The CWS was recently test flown by an unnamed Western air force, and according to IAI, a contract to provide the system will be signed in 2017.

Amit Haimovich, director of marketing and business development at IAI's Malam division, says CWS is a “lifesaving solution” designed to warn combat pilots in situations when potential collision with commercial and civilian aircraft is imminent.

He explains that the CWS is based on extending the collision-warning functions of IAI’s EHUD range-independent air-combat manoeuvring instrumentation systems.

The CWS system can monitor non-military platforms and warn of the proximity and risk of collision with commercial aircraft, and monitoring is performed through integration of interrogation friend/foe data and Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) reports.

Warnings are provided in three different forms: voice; graphical indication on a tablet panel; and via symbols presented on existing cockpit displays.

The system is designed for fighters, trainers, military helicopters and unmanned air vehicles, the company says.
