FAA regulations require a student pilot to be at least 16 years of age to solo an aircraft, and at least 17 years to acquire a Private Pilot Certificate. They must be able to read, write, and speak the English language, and have a current FAA 3rd class Medical.   FAA Part 61 Private Pilot flight training requires 40 hours of logged flight time (specified below), and no minimum ground. The average student will usually need additional hours of training above the FAA minimums, and will be charged on an hourly rate.   The total time for a full time student to complete this course from zero experience normally takes about 8 weeks. Allowances should be made for unforeseen circumstances like bad weather.
