  • When you selec a locking fastener up to ¼” stem size, such as Hi-Lok, Eddie bolt or Huck Lockbolt, E-drill automatically adds the “collar” option on the “type” menu. This is to be used when you cannot readily get to the head-side of a fastener, and the collar won’t unscrew. This solution is especially applicable for swaged Titanium flanged collars, but you will need a collar-side adaptor of the correct diameter (p/n EDCxxx).

When cutting a collar, E-Drill is set to only remove the interference between the collar and the pin, cutting deeply into (but not all the way through) the collar. When all is right the collar should just twist off. If it falls off, then you cut too deep.

Note also that since the depth of cut is much longer than for head-side removal, cycle times will be longer than usual and electrode life will be shorter. However, a good trick when cutting collars is to keep the used electrodes for head side work; an electrode which becomes too worn for collars still probably has good life left for heads.
