The Yak 9 was the most mass produced Soviet fighter of all time. 16,769 were built. According to available information, those who flew the Yak 9 regarded its performance as comparable to the Messerschmitt BF109G, Focke-Wulf FW190A, P-51D and Spitfire IX. It appeared on the battle front from the end of 1942.
