Introduction
Founded in 1947 by Harold and Sidney Guller in their father’s basement, Essex Industries has grown to four facilities, with over 180,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 275 employees.

The Gullers’ first product, an F-214 Radio Noise Filter, was designed to meet a specific requirement for that aircraft.  Over the past seven decades, the product range has grown to include a variety of Platform Controls and Aircraft Components.  As a result, Essex Industries has been a part of virtually every major military and commercial aerospace program since 1947.

Through the years, Essex developed other technologies and acquired companies to expand their product offering.

Essex Cryogenics launched in 1963, with designs and the capability to manufacture liquid oxygen (LOX) converters which provide a means of storing oxygen as a liquid and then expanding it into clean breathable oxygen.  This highly efficient method of oxygen storage and delivery, originally designed for use by aircraft pilots and crew members, has readily transferred to air and ground-based medical life support equipment for both military and commercial applications.

The 1970’s saw Essex introduce thermal/electrothermal valve assemblies and actuators as well as valves, flow selecors and regulators.

The company’s line of Aircraft Components expanded in the 1980’s with the acquisition of Dolphin Systems, which specialized in valves and pumps for the military, and Alar® Products, which manufactured anti-gravity valves for pressurizing crewmember flight suits.  Both of these companies were consolidated into the Maplewood manufacturing plant in 1994.

In 1991, Essex acquired the Portable Breathing and Rescue Products Division fro The DuPont® Corporation, which enhanced the company’s offering of Emergency Breathing Equipment.  And in 2001, The Respiratory Group was established to serve home healthcare and institutional care respiratory equipment providers.

In 2011, Essex launched a re-branding effort, uniting the operations known as Essex Manufacturing, Essex Cryogenics, PB&R, TRG and Fluid Controls under the name Essex Industries.  Today, Essex is recognized for its core product segments of Platform Controls, Aircraft Components, Emergency Breathing Equipment, LOX Equipment and Gas Regulators.

Essex Industries has built on the company’s rich history, establishing a reputation for providing engineered solutions to customers’ problems.   With exacting quality standards and manufacturing expertise, Essex Industries is a company you can rely on for your toughest application requirements.
