Overview and history
Securaplane provides a complete range of power, motion and security devices for aerospace. Our products are installed by major aircraft manufacturers including AgustaWestland, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream, Hawker Beechcraft, and Sikorsky.
Founded in 1986, Securaplane became a Meggitt company in 2011 and is now part of Meggitt’s Power & Motion business.
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, Meggitt is an international group operating in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Known for its specialised extreme environment engineering, Meggitt is a world leader in aerospace, defense and energy markets.
Today
As the aerospace industry moves towards more electric aircraft, there is demand for more power and more sophisticated electronics. Securaplane pioneered aircraft security systems and remains the world leader in this area. Today, we are also the leading supplier in lithium battery systems and wireless technology. Some of our aerospace industry firsts include:
Wireless smoke detection system
Responding to an FAA mandate that required rapid improvements to the monitoring of aircraft cargo holds for smoke and fires, we enabled operators to retrofit wireless smoke detectors overnight, without havin to withdraw aircraft for lengthy implementation of invasive wired solutions.
Wireless emergency lighting system (WELS)
To reduce weight, make installation more flexible and improve maintainability, we developed the wireless emergency lighting system for the Boeing 787. Fully approved by FAA, FCC, and FCC-equivalent organizations in various countries, WELS is the first wireless system to be installed in an aircraft cabin.
Aircraft security systems
We were the first company to offer a fully-integrated aircraft security system integrating detection, alarm, video and video recording, and telecommunication into one package. This innovation continues with our PreFlite system, incorporating the convenience of GSM mobile communications and improved detection using impulse radar technology.
Cockpit door monitoring
In response to the world’s changing security needs, we developed the first cockpit door surveillance system with Delta Airlines. It was later optimized for use across the industry, gaining a reputation for reliability and ease of installation.
