Introduction
Thank you for your interest in Trojan Aviation. We are located in Troy, Alabama – the heart of Alabama’s aviation industry—with flight operations conducted at the Troy Municipal Airport (TOI). If your goal is to become a professional pilot, we offer both airplane and helicopter courses from Private Pilot to Airline Transport Pilot, in addition to Certified Flight Instructor Certificates and Ratings. We also offer customization for customers who desire initial or additional pilot licenses and ratings.
Our Trojan Aviation team is led by Kim McCabe and Mike Coe—two of the most seasoned pilots in the industry. Their 80+ combined years of aviation experience and over 40,000 flight hours spans the entire spectrum of possible flying jobs. Kim and Mike are highly motivated to mentor the next generation of pilots.
Director Kim McCabe is a decorated Marine Corps pilot with over 18,000 hours of flight time in both airplanes and helicopters. Between combat tours flying the twin-engine Super Cobra Attack Helicopter, Kim served at NAS Pensacola as a fixed-wing flight instructor turning Naval and Marine officers into Naval Aviators. After retiring from the Marines, Kim was co-founder of a civilian jet demonstration company flying the super-sonic F-104 Starfighter. In addition, he spent more than a decade flying all types of civilian, turbine-powered helicopters in places like Hawaii, India, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Afghanistan. Kim grew up in central Alabama, is a graduate of Troy University, and has a love for blue skies and aerobatics.
Chief Pilot Mike Coe is a former Air Force pilot and 21-year veteran American Airlines Captain. He has over 22,000 hours of flight time with type ratings in the F-100, B-737, B-757, B-767, MD-11, and SK-65 helicopter. Mike holds a CFI and CFII for both airplanes and helicopters and a MEI. Prior to beginning his airline career, Mike was Chief Pilot for an Alabama-based corporate flight department operating eight aircraft. Mike grew up in south Alabama and has a Bachelor of Aviation Management from Auburn University and a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Our flight instructor cadre is comprised of the finest and most experienced flight instructors. Our Chief Helicopter Instructors each have multiple thousands of hours instructing in helicopters and thousands of hours instructing in Robinson helicopters. Our airplane instructors also have thousands of hours of flight experience with aviation backgrounds in the military, commercial airlines, and leading university flight schools.
Trojan Aviation is dedicated to safety, excellence, and customer service. We hope you will give us a chance to talk with you about your flight training goals.
