Introduction

The largest foundry in Latin America, Tupy was established in 1938 in the city of Joinville, State of Santa Catarina, in the South of Brazil. An open capital company, it has two controlling shareholders: BNDESPAR – Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social Participações S.A. and PREVI – the Banco do Brasil employees’ benefit fund. In 2010, the net revenue reached R$ 1.871 million and net profit was R$ 154.4 million.

Tupy develops and manufactures components for the automotive industry - engine blocks and heads; brake, transmission, steering, axle and suspension parts that have applications in trucks, buses, agriculture and construction machinery, passenger vehicles, industrial and naval engines, etc. The product portfolio also includes malleable iron fittings used in the industry in general as well as in construction, petroleum and gas, sanitation and irrigation segments; steel shots for surface cleaning and marble and granite cutting; and continuous casting for various industrial applications.

Certified by the standards ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 140001, Tupy counts on two manufacturing plants: one in Joinville with a production capacity of 400 thousand tones per year and another one in Mauá, in the greater São Paulo area, in the Sourtheast of Brazil, with capacity for manufacturing 100 thousand tones per year.Presently, it counts on 9,000 employees, 7,700 in Joinville and 1,300 in Mauá. For the commercialization of its products and customer service, the company counts on offices in the city of São Paulo, in the United States, Mexico, Germany, Italy, England and Japan. It also has commercial representatives in China.

Among its main customers in the international automotive market are Cummins, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Perkins, Audi, Iveco, MAN, John Deere, Komatsu, Kubota and Peugeot. In Brazil, the company is also a leader in the market of malleable iron pipe fittings.
