Commercial Pilot Certification

This study program is designed as the next step for students who wish to make flying helicopters their career. It’s an even more challenging course, and the focus is to hone the flight skills to perfection as you build up your Pilot in Command (PIC) flight hours. When you achieve commercial pilot certification, you will be allowed to carry passengers and accept compensation for it. In addition, you will be prepared for the essential demands of flying as a professional by increasing your flight skills in busy and confined airspace.

The basic FAA requirements that need to be met to qualify are:

Be at least 18 years old

Be fluent in English (read, write, speak and understand it)

Hold a minimum of an FAA Class II Medical Certificate

Have TSA authorization for flight training (a federal security clearance)

Have completed a minimum of 150 total hours of flight time

Have completed a minimum of 50 hours of dual instruction

Have completed a minimum of 100 hours of pilot-in-command (PIC) flight hours

Pass an FAA written exam

Pass an oral test and check ride with an FAA examiner

Utah Helicopter Flight Academy commercial pilot training includes:

10 hours dual flight instruction in Robinson R22

10 hours instrument instruction in Robinson R22

90 hours pilot-in-command (PIC) in Robinson R22

30 hours of ground school
