Four major Chinese airports have been penalized by Chinese regulators for their poor punctuality records.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has banned Beijing Capital International Airport from adding frequencies, charter services, and making new route applications since September 23.

In a statement, the CAAC added that the airports at Shanghai and Nanjing continue to remain under a similar ban.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Nanjing Lukou International Airport remain banned from adding frequencies, charter services and making new route applications, after failing to meet the Chinese regulator's performance standards for six and two consecutive months.

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was also blocked from adding new flights in October due to poor on-time performance in July 2016.

As a result, none of these airports will be permitted to add any new flights for the next two months.

The airports must meet on-time performance standards for two consecutive months, before further flight applications will be accepted.

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International airport will be able to resume applications for new services on October 1 as their on-time performance improved.

The CAAC said that air traffic congestion, adverse weather conditions and poor management were the main reasons for flight delays and cancellations.
