Beijing Capital International Airport said it is expected to serve over 3 million people during the upcoming week-long National Day Holiday, or "Golden Week", from Oct. 1-7.
The airport projects that it will handle on average 260,100 people per day during the week-long holiday.
From Sep. 28 to Oct. 10, PEK is expected to serve up to 21,788 takeoffs and landings, an average of 1,676 movements per day, up 2.83% year on year. A total of 33.8 million people will travel through the airport, up 4.49% year on year.
A surging number of passengers will travel out of the airport on Sep. 30, while the returning peak of passengers will start from Oct. 5 and last until Oct. 9, according to the airport.
The airport said it is expected to handle up to 283,700 passengers on Oct. 1 - the busiest day of the period. Aircraft movements are expected to hit a record high of 1,759, bringing the daily passenger volume to 283,700.
Beijing airport has initiated emergency response measures to ensure the safe, smooth and orderly transport of passengers. All the airport's security check gates will be put into service during the rush hour of the holiday season to shorten waiting periods.
Specifically, Beijing airport is making it easier for weary long-haul transit travelers to take a quick nap before takeoff. Located at Gates No. 38, 16 in Terminal 2 and Gates No. 19, 27 in T3, 7 sleeping pods are offered for fliers. Passengers will be able to snooze in the pods for free.
Notably, the airport will tighten security checks during the Golden Week. The airport warns that lithium batteries and power banks are not allowed to be carried in checked luggage, and matches and cigarette lighter are forbidden to be carried on flights or in checked luggage.
Passengers are advised to arrive in the airport earlier than usual to avoid the possible traffic jam and leave enough time for check-in and security checks.
