TEAMS of secondary school students this week battled flames in a fire training exercise and took in the view from the top of the air-traffic control tower at the Airport as part of a youth development scheme.
The Achieve Programme, which is run by the Prince’s Trust and is open to three schools in the Island, aims to develop young people’s confidence and improve their employability.
Yesterday, as part of the two-year scheme, nine students from Le Rocquier work together to extinguish a simulated engine fire at the Airport fire training ground.
Speaking about the six weeks that the young people had spent working with the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS), Florrie Copley, the youth worker running the programme, said that the experience the students had gained was priceless.
