The city of Dayton is seeking a single provider of taxi service at the airport with the stated goal of improving the customer experience.

Currently, 11 off-airport taxicab companies are licensed to operate at the Dayton International Airport. Any taxicab company right now can dro off passengers at the terminal.

But the city is using a competitive bid process to offer the non-exclusive right to provide taxi concessions at the aviation facility.

The winning bidder can be one company or a legal entity consisting of no more than three companies. The operating agreement will last three years with renewal options.

The seleced provider will be asked to handle passenger pick up in a queuing area and will oversee a staging area for cabs. The company will be expected to meet certain performance and quality standards.

Last year, the airport received more than $41,000 in taxi revenue fro 21,030 trips from the facility.

Earlier this year, more than 30 drivers from a variety of taxicab companies petitioned the city to ask for better working conditions. Drivers also pressed the city to prohibit ride-sharing companies like Uber from working at the airport.
