Two passengers were hurt Tuesday afternoon after a people-moving vehicle crashed at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

The vehicle drove off-course into a ditch at an uneven area of pavement in a construction site shortly before 2:30 p.m., said Rob Yingling, spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

There were 37 passengers aboard at the time of the crash. Two were taken to a hospital; their injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident happened between the main terminal and the B gates, near gate B50 (see an airport map here). Airport officials said the passengers had arrived on Avianca Airlines Flight 246 from Bogota, Colombia. They were on their way to the main terminal for processing at U.S. Customs.

Operations at Dulles Airport were not affected.

The vehicle, known as a mobile lounge, has been removed from the ditch. Passengers rode to Customs in another vehicle.

Mobile lounges are used to transport airport passengers between some parts of the airport and the main terminal. Part of the system has been replaced with the Aerotrain train system, but mobile lounges are still used in other parts of the airport.
