The Singapore Ministry of Defence will be getting an unspecified number of Airbus Helicopters H225Ms and Boeing CH-47Fs. The ministry announced the contract awards Monday.

Airbus' H225M is the latest evolution of the Super Puma/Cougar family of military helicopters, which have been in service in Singapore for the past 30 years, said Airbus Helicopters CEO Guillaume Faury in a company press release. It is currently in service in France, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Kuwait.

The medium- and heavy-lift aircraft will be used for search and rescue, aeromedical evacuation and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The new aircraft will replac the nation's air force's existing Super Pumas and Chinooks. The ministry said both models in its fleet have been in service since 1983 and 1994.
