Construction is winding down on the $9.5 million enhancement project at the Louisville International Airport Jerry Abramson Terminal but will continue through the long Thanksgiving weekend, which is a major time for air travel.

In addition, HSM Host -- the food-and-beverage vendor -- and Paradies Lagardère, the contractor for gift-and-news services at the airport, are together investing more than $8 million in new outlets and retail stores at the terminal.

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority's website, FlyLouisville, has updates the status of construction.

It said that before the security checkpoint on the landside terminal, travelers and other airport guests can visit the recently opened Comfy Cow, as well as several retail outlets -- mostly new or revamped -- that include Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Louisville Slugger and Today.

Also, Chili’s Bar & Grill recently reopened after the security checkpoint in the airside terminal in Concourse A.

Before the security checkpoint on the landside terminal, work is now complete on improvements to the four center escalators that connect the upper departure level and the lower arrival level.  All escalators, the center stairs and the center elevator are open and available for use, airport officials said.

All the extensive terrazzo floor work before the security checkpoint has been installed.

As part of the project, a meditation room has opened in the terminal's west hall, behind the American Airlines, United Airlines and oneJet ticket counters.

On the airside portion of the terminal, after the security checkpoint in the rotunda area, the Brighton Collectibles, Distillery District Marketplace and Finish Line News retail stores remain closed but are scheduled to open later this year. In addition, a temporary Starbucks kiosk is located near the entrance of Concourse B as work continues on a Starbucks Evenings outlet.

Temporary construction signs have been put up throughout the terminal to direct guests during the construction project. Officials said they expect all the work to be completed by the year's end.
