The next installment of the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ (CSIS) Future Vertical Lift (FVL) series is set for Dec. 9 at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. Sparking discussions is the U.S. Army and Defense Dept.’s development of the first requirement for a next-generation medium helicopter that could be the first in a FVL family of varying sizes.

Titled “Future Vertical Lift: Service Perspectives on Requirements,” panel discussions are to include commonality between service requirements, open systems architecture and the timeline for meeting requirements.

CSIS’ Andrew Philip Hunter, who is director of the Defense-Industrial Initiatives Group and senior fellow of the International Security Program, is slated as discussion mediator. Panel members include Col. Erskine Bentley, director of TCM-FVL for the Army; Col. John Barranco from Rotorcraft Requirements of the U.S. Marine Corps; and Col. David Phillips, program executive officer of Rotary Wing at U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
