Proposed to meet the Indian Air Force’s requirement for a dedicated light helicopter for combat operations, the LCH is based on the HAL Dhruv advanced light helicopter (ALH). It features a pilot and co-pilot/gunner tandem configuration with a glass cockpit, night-attack capability and crashworthy landing gear, an integrated dynamic system, an integrated avionics display system (IADS), a hingeless main rotor and a bearing-less tail rotor.

The HAL LUH is a member of the 3-ton weight class. It was designed for reconnaissance and surveillance roles, and features a class cockpit with multifunction displays (MFD), designated to replac the HAL Cheetah and HAL Chetak. The single-engine helicopter can fly at 136 mph with a range of 217 mi.
