Dart Aerospace plans to design and develop the first available emergency flotation system supplemental type certificate for the Bell Helicopter 505 Jet Ranger X, the company said at Heli-Expo.

Certification for the system in Canada is expected by 2018. The companies plan to seek certification at other aviation authorities, including the U.S.’s FAA and Europe’s EASA.

The system provides safety benefits in over-water operations and longer maintenance intervals. Dart has developed 30 such systems since 1995.
