The first Kaman Aerosystems K-MAX from the company’s reopened commercial production line made its maiden flight, the company said.
“Thanks to the expertise and hard work of the men and women working on the aircraft the first flight went extremely smoothly,” said Bill Hart, Kaman chief pilot. “This new aircraft performed flawlessly and I look forward to successfully completing our production flight test schedule over the coming weeks.”
Kaman said it has received orders for the K-MAX from all over the world, including China, Europe and North America. The first delivery is expected in the coming weeks, when two production aircraft make their way to Lectern Aviation of China. There, the K-MAXs would be used for a firefighting mission.
The single-engine aircraft seats one. It features a counter-rotating rotor system and can lift up to 6,000 pounds.
