The Nepalese Army has open bidding for one dozen helicopters. The Kathmandu Post reported that Nepal has opened bidding to sell the Army’s 12 grounded helicopters.
“The Directorate General of Army Aviation invites sealed bids for each group/subgroup from eligible bidders for the Auction sale of the following Aircrafts/Helicopters, their spare parts and tools on ‘As wher condition is,’” the invitation for bid states.
Two Airbus Helicopters Super Pumas and one Puma, five Aérospatiale Alouettes, one Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Cheetah and three Mil Mi-17 are up for bids. Combined with consumable, repairable and unserviceable spare parts, the total minimum bid for everything is some $15 million (1,551,892,362.25 Nepal Rupees).
According to The Kathmandu Post, this is the second tender attempt. The first call for bids was in May, but it reportedly failed to attract bidders. The report also said that the decision to sell the helicopters followed the government’s OK for the Army to buy three helicopters and a light plane. The Army is, reportedly, on the path to buying one medium and two light helicopters.
