Bell Helicopter and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) plan to cooperate on the UH-1Y, Bell’s parent Textron said. The two signed a letter of intent, expanding their business relationship.

"We strongly believe this step with PGZ provides a solid basis for further relationships and shows Bell Helicopter’s commitment to supporting Poland’s military objectives and desire for industry growth. Being the newest attack and utility helicopters available on the market, the H-1 program gives our potential industry partners such as PGZ significant area for cooperation,” said Rich Harris, VP of international military business for Bell. “The AH-1Z and UH-1Y together provide a common strength that offers the most effective and efficient means of accomplishing the missions in Poland.”

The letter identifies the AH-1Z in support of the Kruk program, Textron said. The program is a Polish government effort to acquire attack helicopters as part of the Polish Armed Forces modernization plan. In accordance with the letter, PGZ and Bell are set to have discussion about the knowledge transfer from Bell to PGZ. Textron said topics also include discussions about how PGZ companies would be allowed to perform work themselves, should the Ministry of National Defence purchase the AH-1Z and UH-1Y.

The AH-1Z and UH-1Y share 85% commonality, Textron said.
