Burcu Dinçer, 27, is Turkey’s first female helicopter pilot to fight fires, multiple news outlets reported. She reportedly trained for two-and-a-half years at a civil aviation school and now works for that nation's Forest Ministry.

Dinçer said her passion for flying probably came from growing up near Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport, according to the reports. She had reportedly always been interested in firefighting, but people were “surprised” when she told them of her new job. However, her announcement was also met with support.

“In every person there should be a passion and they should work for that passion. I want to be an example for young girls. They may face unfavorable situations but they should never give up. They should be active,” Dinçer was quoted as saying by Hurriyet Daily News. “For a woman to be successful, she has to be very powerful. Not in physical terms but psychologically. If a woman has self-confidence there is nothing she cannot accomplish.”

In both Hurriyet Daily News and AirlineHaber, Dinçer is pictured with a Russian Helicopters Mi-8MTV-1. Both outlets reported that the helicopter she pilots can fly for up to 2 hours and 15 minutes and carry 2.5 tons of water. According to AirlineHaber, Dinçer said her unit can take off within 12 minutes of getting a call.
