Truth Data and Baldwin Aviation are teaming up to help U.S. air medical operators meet a 2018 mandate to implement flight data monitoring programs, a capability that is one subject of the upcoming Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit next month in Fort Worth, Texas.

“We see a real opportunity to work with Baldwin to help air medical helicopter operators prepare” for the April 2018 flight data monitoring (FDM) system implementation deadline in the U.S., Truth Data President Peter Henrikson said. based in Fort Worth, Truth Data provides flight operation and quality assurance (FOQA) and FDM capabilities through local and cloud capabilities for data analytics, information visualization and reporting.

Henrikson is a featured speaker at the Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit, which R&WI is hosting Sept. 20 and 21 at Fort Worth's Omni Hotel. He is scheduled to join a panel discussion, “Making Flight Data Monitoring and HUMS Work for Your Operation” Sept. 20.

That session will address a range of issues, including that April 2018 mandate (under Federal Aviation Regulations 135.607, part of the “helicopter air ambulance rule”), recent successes and failures in the application of FDM and health and usage monitoring systems (HUMS) and the short-term potential for FDM- and HUMS-based improvements in engines, aircraft and systems and operational costs.

The session will be moderated by Stan Rose, founder and CEO of Helicopter Safety Alliance and former director of safety outreach for Helicopter Association International. He and Henrikson are to be joined by Metro Aviation Director of Safety Ed Stockhausen and HeliOffshore Operations Director Francois Lassale.

Truth Data’s new strategic partnership with Baldwin Aviation is aimed at providing FOQA and safety management systems (SMS) services as well as FDM ones to both helicopter and fixed-wing and customers. based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Baldwin Aviation is a recognized leader in SMS and quality management system compliance supporting ground, rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft and other commercial and non-commercial operations.

“Baldwin is the leader in the SMS and safety world, and we are pleased to support their customers by providing them FOQA/FDM services,” Henrikson said. “While Truth Data supports the two largest air medical operators in the U.S. and Australia with Air Methods and Toll Helicopters, we also scale our services to make these key safety-enhancing services available to operators with fleets as small as one aircraft.”

Baldwin Aviation President Don Baldwin said, “Our strategic partnership further enhances any size operator’s safety management program. Baldwin’s custom-designed FOQA/FDM tools combined with Truth Data’s expertise in analyzing flight data make a powerful combination.”
