Like the earlier skyBeacon, the new tailBeacon by uAvionix contains multiple TSOs in one integrated package that takes less than an hour to install. In addition to the TSO certification for the low-cost ADS-B Out system, tailBeacon includes an integrated WAAS GPS (the first TSO-C145e GPS in the world), a barometric altimeter and the LED rear position light. Transponder data is provided via the existing aircraft wiring system using the Power Transcoder. When installed by December 31, 2019, the tailBeacon will meet the FAA's requirement to provide ADS-B Out capabilities.

While the actual STC needed to install tailBeacon on a variety of aircraft is still in the works, uAvionix says they expect that to be complete very soon. uAvionix has doubled its production capacity and already received the FAA's Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO) approval for tailBeacon. The new unit, including the upcoming STC will run $1,999. All of the uAvionix products will be on display at their booth later this month at AirVenture in Oshkosh.
