  • Our goal is simple…

We strive to provide the safest, most comprehensive, flight training possible.

All of our training programs are conducted in a one-on-one basis between the instructor and the student. The scheduling, and curriculum, is tailored for the student to enjoy a safe, fun, and expeditious learning experience. Whether you’re looking to start a career in aviation, need to get around faster for a business, or simply wish to learn something new and exciting; your professional flight training starts here!

    Private Pilot (Single-Engine Land)

Generally, the first step for most pilots is the private pilot certificate. This certificate will allow the pilot to fly most small, single-engine airplanes to almost any destination, as long as certain weather minimums are adhered to. If the pilot wishes to fly larger single-engine aircraft, the transition is relatively easy. Depending on the aircraft, it may only require the pilot to be trained in that specific type of aircraft.

    Eligibility…

    Federal Aviation Regulation 61.83

Eligibility requirements for a Student Pilot Certificate:

1.Be at least 16 years of age

2.Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English

3.Hold at least a current third-class medical certificate

Note: Due to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) requirements, you must provide proof of U.S. citizenship before any training may occur. Such documentation may include a valid passport or birth certificate. If you are not a U.S. citizen and wish to receive flight training, please contact Austin Aeroflight for information on the steps necessary to obtain TSA approval.

Federal Aviation Regulation 61.96 and 61.103

Eligibility requirements for Private Pilot Certificates:

1.Be at least 17 years of age

2.Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English

3.Hold at least a current third-class medical certificate

    4.Pass a written test

5.Pass an oral and flight test

    6.Receive flight and ground instruction

    The Lessons…

Each lesson is approximately two hours in length consisting of both ground training and in-flight training. As training progresses, some lessons may require different arrangements to accommodate training requirements.

    Ground School…

Our ground training, in preparation for the written exam, is a guided self-study program. The student will be required to read the material on their own time. The key elements of the material will be covered in-depth with the instructor.

    Scheduling…

Our schedule is based on YOUR schedule. The individual lessons are provided on a first-come-first-serve basis.

    Requirements…

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that a private pilot applicant meet certain aeronautical experience requirements. The student must log a minimum of 40 hours of flight time which includes at least 20 hours of instruction and at least 10 hours of solo time. Although this is the minimum amount required, the average student becomes proficient enough to pass the practical exam after 50 or 60 hours of flight time. This includes a mixture of both dual instruction and solo flying time. Along with the specified training requirements, a private pilot applicant is also required to pass a written exam and a practical exam. The practical exam involves one-on-one questioning from a designated examiner along with an in-flight demonstration of abilities.

    Cost…

The cost of a private pilot certificate can essentially be broken down into two elements: aircraft rental; and instruction. Our Cessna 172 rents for $95.00 per hour, and our instruction rate is $35.00 per hour for both in-flight and on the ground instruction. The overall cost of a pilot’s certificate is based on the exact number of hours spent training.

Below is an estimate of your investment in a private pilot certificate based on the total number of flight hours at the completion of the training:

Payments for Flight Training and Aircraft Rental may be made with cash, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, or approved credit.
