You have two Pilot Certificates to choose from at Hampton Airfield:

    Sport Pilot License

You must be at least 16 years of age to solo the aircraft (fly by yourself), and 17 to achieve the license. You may however begin flight training at any age, we recommend students be at least 12 years old.

Have a driver's license or 3rd Class Medical once ready to solo as well as renter's insurance.

Must fly aircraft in the Light Sport Airplane category (LSA).

Requires a minimum of 20 hours of flight training. Most complete in 30 hours.

May not operate the aircraft at night.

May take only one passenger. (Light Sport Aircraft only have two seats).

A Sport Pilot Certificate can be used as a stepping-stone towards a Private Pilot License as well. If your goal is to enjoy the beautiful weather and the beautiful New England area, a Sport Pilot License is a great choice for the weekend and fair weather flyers!

    Private Pilot License

You must be at least 16 years of age to solo the aircraft (fly by yourself), and 17 to achieve the license. You may however begin flight training at any age, we recommend students be at least 12 years old.

Have a 3rd Class Medical once ready to solo as well as renter's insurance.

Requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training. Most complete in 60 hours.

May operate the aircraft at night.

May carry as many passengers as the airplane allows.

A Private Pilot Certificate is more demanding than the Sport Pilot Certificate, but it is also the first step towards becoming a professional pilot if that is your goal. The Private Pilot License would allow you to broaden your horizons and fly a variety of aircraft. With the Private License you can also step into your advanced training, such as Instrument Rating, Commercial, Multi-Engine, etc.
