  • Security regulations for flights

Please note that every item of luggage must be labelled with an address. Unlabelled luggage will not be accepted at the check-in desk.

Special regulations apply to the transport of animals, weapons, knives and hazardous substances (for example, ammunition, lighter fuel and batteries). You can find out about these regulations from your airline. Banned items that are discovered at the security checkpoint will be disposed of by the security staff if the passenger has no other means of transporting them.

Dortmund Airport offers passengers the option of sending small items back to their home address for a charge of €5 (only within Germany).

Please contact your airline, travel agency or tour operator before you fly if you have other questions about luggage regulations.

    Example of banned items

You can view and download a list of all banned items as a PDF document under the following link. This list is based on Commission Regulation (EU) No 185/2010 of 4 March 2010.

    Regulations for hand luggage

European unio security regulations on transporting liquids in hand luggage were introduced on 6 November 2006. For safety reasons, only small amounts of liquids can be taken on board aircraft.

    1-litre plastic bag

All containers up to a maximum capacity of 100 ml must be packed in a transparent, resealable 1-litre plastic bag. Each passenger can take one 1-litre bag on board.

Liquids include gels, pastes, lotions, mixtures of liquids and solids and the contents of pressurised containers, for example toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, shaving foam, aerosols and other products of a similar consistency.

    Medicines and special foods

Exceptions can be made to these restrictions if the liquid is needed during the flight for medical or special dietary purposes. This also applies to baby food.

    Duty-free-purchases

Since 31 January 2014, it has been possible to take items purchased at the duty-free shop or on board with you. The items and the receipt must be sealed in a special security bag at the time of purchase.

You can find more information about the EU security regulations on carrying liquids in hand luggage on the Federal Police website.
